Contacts on desktop disappeared after upgrade to Big Sur

Contacts are still appearing on all other devices (iPhone and 2 MacBooks). I have tried iCloud restoration but it doesn't update iMac. I have external drive but no success in finding backup. Addresses show up when typing name in Mail on desktop. What else can I do?

Just check again: if you go on your desktop to SystemPreferences, AppleID, iCloud: is Contacts enabled?
