transferring imessages ios to new iPhone11

I have just replaced an iPhone 6 running ios 9.3.5 with a new iPhone 11 running ios 14.2. Because I have an older system on the iPhone 6, I am unable to synch directly to the newer phone. So what I hope will work, is to backup the iPhone 6 to iCloud, and then set up the new phone with that backup. My questions are primarily concerning transferring the text messages from the older phone. What settings should I use when backing up the iPhone 6, and are there any settings I should use in setting up the new phone with the backup, so that I will have all of the previous iMessages on the new phone?
