Volume changes to max on its own

I have an iPad 4, had it for a number of years and never had any issues, until today.

My daughter was watching YT Kids app with headphones and the volume suddenly raised to max without her having touched any of the buttons or onscreen controls. My partner and I tested it and it repeated this with us also.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

I do not have any extended coverage, a brief google search suggests it may be a hardware issue but I suspect we would be charged the full £200+ fees to repair an issue we didn't create.

I also can't download the Apple Support app as my iPad will only update the software to 10.3.3 and the app needs minimum of 13.1

I, like almost all responders here, do not work for Apple. I am a volunteer answering technical questions.

I suspect you may get assistance from Apple for a fee, but I’m not certain.
