RELOCATED ITEMS folder ~ what is the "sysctl.conf" file?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I recently upgraded to BigSur and was confronted with a folder on my desktop RELOCATED ITEMS which contained a file sysctl.conf

May someone please explain what this is?

Thank you again....!

It contains the kernel defaults.

The document in the Relocated Items folder should have explained why it is relocated, but the quick and dirty is the OS changed settings in the sysctl.conf file and it put a copy of the old file into Relocated Items in case you had modified the file in the past. You could then make your modifications again.

If it isn't something you recognize, just delete it.
