Connect Mac mini to iMac

I just received my Mac mini. I’m very excited. I had been told I could use the iMac I already have as an external display for the mini. Can anyone hep me figure out how to do that? I have a thunderbolt3 to thunderbolt3 cable.

You're welcome.

If you have an HDMI TV, you could temporary use it until your new display arrives.

FWIW I wouldn't make a special trip, but I'd be inclined to enlighten the sales person or the manager with a return call or visit.

I wouldn't get to excited about using the older iMac as a display, because both Mac's need to support Target Display Mode.

So.... even if you have an older 2009-2014 iMac that supports Target Display Mode, the new 2020 Mac's including the M1 Mac Mini does not support using the older iMac's as a Display.
