Touch ID

Since installing Big Sur 11.1 my Touch ID has stopped working. I managed to delete my finger print but even after putting in my password, I can't add a new finger print, any ideas?

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately I could not get it to work.

I did find the solution on another post outside of the apple forum, that was to turn off my Mac, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then release. Wait a few seconds and then start as normal.

The post mentioned the SME was failing to respond and this was a way to restart it.

Since then, fingers crossed everything has been working OK.

Hi there SSIWR02,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with setting up Touch ID after installing macOS Big Sur 11.1, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

To begin, restart your Mac, and check for the issue again: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

If you're still unable to add a fingerprint, restart in safe mode and try again: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Cheers!
