I can't delete or change an admin account

My regular account is admin (not the one I want to delete). However, somehow my throw away account has become admin and 1st user? It always pops up first when my computer restarts to log in. I read in threads that I have to create another admin account to delete one. Now I have three admin account with two I can't delete. It doesn't allow me to change admins to regular user in any admin account.

I'm logged in the original admin account and I can't delete either admin account, only the standard one.

I don't believe I have a ghost user, but I restarted my computer after making another admin and I could delete all the other admins : )

So if anyone else has this problem this is what I did:

  1. Make a new admin user
  2. Go into Settings -> Security and Privacy -> FileVault
  3. Unlock padlock and make sure the admin account you want to keep has access to it
  4. Log out of the admin account you want to delete (I just restarted my computer)

I don't know if you need both steps or either since I restarted after doing both, but this is what I did that worked. Here's the thread for the FileVault https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8087348

Verify you log out the other user you are trying to delete, from the >Log out
