New M1 Mac mini keyboard Lagging

So I've had my new M1 16g Mac mini for about 3 weeks now. a few days ago I noticed that when typing (whether it be google, safari, an email ect. the typing response/lag is horrendous. a few seconds. then all of a sudden all the letters will come out of nowhere. i tried turning off the keyboard and mouse and turning them back on. I tried restarting, I ended up completely shutting the computer down for a few minutes then starting back up and it fixed the issue for what seemed to be 12hours ..... I'm super P*ssed. does anyone have similar issues with the new M1's? do i need to send this thing back?

Yeahh, yesterday while I was chatting with Support a new Release came out:

macOS Big Sur‌ 11.2 improves Bluetooth reliability and fixes the following issues:

- External displays may show a black screen when connected to a ‌Mac mini‌ (‌M1‌, 2020) using an HDMI to DVI converter

- Edits to Apple ProRAW photos in the Photos app may not save

- ‌iCloud Drive‌ could turn off after disabling the ‌iCloud Drive‌ Desktop & Documents Folders option

- System Preferences may not unlock when entering your administrator password

- Globe key may not display the Emoji & Symbols pane when pressed

Let's all test it and report back, if it's still happening (I definitely had the Black Screen Problem, iCloud Drive and the Mouse stutters).

YES! It is positively infuriating. I JUST had to close every open program and RESTART. Again. What is wrong with this M1 'advanced' chip. It's a joke. Yet again, Apple releases crap that is unfinished or buggy and WE end users have to just deal with it until someone isn't lazy enough to FIX it! Yes, I'm ******. Apple: GET IT TOGETHER!

Are they all so incompetent? So untrained at Apple to not figure out what THEY have made doesn't worked expect US to test their crap? WE are not required to spend hours of our time to figure out their screw ups - especially when we have paid a fortune for their tech. Tired of this crap. Selling and switching back to DELL/Microsoft. ANYTHING but Apple.

At least it's not a showstopper! Yes, we all expect perfection but this is a first gen product with the M1. I bet first gen. automobiles costing way more would like to have this problem. Cmd/Shift and re-setting BT preferences is not all that invasive. Just imagine if you had an issue like random crashing or lockups, or nothing but dialog boxes telling you something is either not working or not compatible. I've had my machine for a little over a month and this is the only negative I have experienced. In a world of stuff............

Yes, I assumed the lag was normal....have you reinstalled...also, also, the recovery partition is accessed differently on the M1's. I could not figure it after trying com-R....I finally read that you have to keep the power button down for about 10 seconds to access recovery...I wanted to check the internal ssd drive from DU from the portion. I also have had some strange issues with Big Sur but found fixes or the answer.

New problem coming out. My mac mini started asking for my keychain password over and over. Then rebooted and dropped my bluetooth keyboard (Macally mini, because I never got my mini mac keyboards to work with the Mini m1). So I couldn't log into the mac mini M1. My logitech trackball worked but my trackpad, Macally keyboard, etc - nada. So I found a wired keyboard, plugged it in and went to the bluetooth settings and no matter how hard I tried, couldn't get any bluetooth to connect even though they were found. I noticed the wireless was on for some reason and even turning that off didn't fix it. I rebooted and rebooted then it rebooted on its own and all of a sudden the macally bluetooth keyboard attached. Then the trackpad wouldn't attach so I brought it upstairs away from the Mac mini and it connected immediately to an older macair 15".

So the current status is my Macally bluetooth keyboard is connected. I have a logitech slimline mouse connected to bluetooth (not the logitech dongle). My trackball is connected to the logitech dongle and never gives me trouble. My older mac trackpad wont connect. This is crazy. I guess I am going to see if logitech has a mac-specific keyboard. That's why I bought the Macally kbd. I also need it to be flat so it slides under my synthesizer on a pull out tray.

My mac mini M1 reboots all the time on its own. I have no idea what causes it but it is constant. I send the reports in and wouldn't it be nice if they sent something back as part of the submission that describes the root cause??? I have a Steinberg/Yamaha UR242 sound interface attached and several synthesizers and keyboards through an external USB-C hub that has a number of interfaces including HDMI, USB-C, thunderbolt, GigE, etc.

Anyway, the Mac Mini M1 is fast as blazes but whats with the rebooting? Anyway to find out what is causing it?

Thanks,

Jerry

sorry, reinstalling the system is completely impractical.

I purchased the Mac Mini M1 to use an external synthesizer with the Roland cloud. Works perfectly when it's not rebooting. Very fast compared to any other computer I tried, no crackling audio, buffering, etc. Midi connects through a Steinberg/Yamaha audio/midi interface and works with very low latency. But it took me quite a while to get everything installed and configured and though I keep notes, doing it again to correct what I see is apple's issue - without root cause identified - is a waste of time.

I now saw 11.4 is out, didn't know that, so I downloaded and installed it yesterday. My magic trackpad (it takes magic to make it work) connected and the system didn't reboot last night so I'm optimistic. Since I never had a problem with devices connected to a Logitech dongle (with the * on it), I connected a logitech keyboard as well so I can at least login next time the mini M1 drops the bluetooth.

Extremely frustrating and a waste of time. I initially thought it was malware and ran scans to make sure my disk was not infected.

I see these complaints have been going on for many months. Unbelievable, Apple spends tons of money developing a new system (from scratch: M1 chip) and kill the experience with such a stupid problem.

its now Nov 10,2021 and I still have the same issue if the machine is left on more than 24 hrs. Im running OSX 12.1 (21C502h) this is disgusting and makes my work day aggravating because I copy and paste and it sometimes pastes 5-6 times in a row for one single item. and mouse is really laggy also. both mouse and keyboard are the black apple style. It also lags with the Magic Trackpad
