tiny dock icons - just some

Some of the icons in my dock are tiny, they look like micro versions of the standard ones. It seems to be the ones on the right, for active programmes, and once the icon is clicked to re-activiate the programme they revert to normal size. Feels like a glitch, but is this some odd option I may have selected?

Well that worked for a couple of hours, now I have a tiny icon again. This time for photos. So any idea what might be the cause?

Thanks for the update—

Uninstall any and all third party Antivirus, Cleaners, Optimizers, VPN, and speeder uppers....

these can cause all kinds of anomalies and issues.

To trouble shoot further you can:

 —Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache,  etc.

Login and and have a look see. Not practical to try a normal work low in Safe boot mode—In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a  reboot will put it back to normal mode..

Reboot  as normal and test as caches get rebuilt.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

This indeed seems like a bug—

If this is a corrupt plist you can delete it, and it will rebuild itself to default—

From the Finder>Go>Go to Folder    copy and paste:

 ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

delete this file (plist)

then simply reboot or in terminal type:

 killall Dock
