iphone 12 pro max battery health degrading

I got my new 128GB 12 Pro Max with blue silicon case on the 11/13 launch day. In the weeks since I’ve noticed the battery health has already dropped to 98%. I’ve only used public releases of iOS and haven’t installed any iOS beta’s that would have enabled extra logging functions that could have negatively impacted battery life and health. Optimized charging has been enabled the whole time, and it’s only been charged with a USB-A cable and an Apple 5W charger. I don’t see any apps standing out as battery hogs, and I’m using my phone as much as I did my 11 Pro Max. I’m shocked to see the battery health drop below 100% in the first 6 weeks, and at this rate it will be below 90% by summer 2021. Has anyone else noticed their battery health has dropped below 100% on a 12 Pro Max?

It has nothing to do with chronological time. It is “80% is normal after 500 full charge cycles”. A full charge cycle is from 0 to 100% (or combinations that add up to 100% such as 20% to 70% twice). And you should never let it go to 0% intentionally; that WILL shorten the capacity of the battery if it happens frequently. Ideally, charge it when it gets to 20%, and charge it overnight, every night, with Optimized charging enabled.

It seems to be a portion of devices are dropping battery health faster than expected. Since I joined this discussion mine dropped from 92% to 91%.

Mine should be about 93%-94% if dropping 1% a month is accurate. In the next couple weeks I assume mine will drop to 90% or 89%.

The 11 pro max I have which was used much longer & with heavy use is now at 96%.

Dogfiw is quite professional and senior in this forum but I always see him saying that all rapid health droppings are normal even with my 1% drop per week with just 3 charge cycles . If it is normal , why will apple replace it free of charge for me at last ? They even asked me if I would charge my mother board together just in case, But I preferred changing battery for trial first.

That's what Apple wants you to believe. Many older iPhones are still showing over 85% battery health after year's of use, I know 2 iPhone SE owners that their phones are still 95% and can still last them over a day as new. My iPhone Pro Max is already at 88% and doesn't last me a day anymore, it used to last over a day without a sweat. Don't just quote what Apple said and call it a day for crying out loud.

That’s the point. But there are people keep on saying the it is normal and ask us to wait till 80% with warranty. If extremely fast like me, then congratulate us that we should achieve 80% very soon. This kind of reply or suggestion is really useless

And, if the phone is under warranty when that happens, Apple will replace it for free.

Ok I think I was definitely freaking out for a sec. I’ve had my iPhone 12 since very early January and it’s only now gone down to 99%. So about 6 months to go down a percent. I think I overreacted but I still don’t like it being at 99% not gonna lie. Just makes me feel like now my phone is gonna deplete more and more way faster. Hopefully not but yeah I’ve been using my phone a LOT I will say and I can say I’m glad that the battery health is still this high so not bad. But I will say I’ve always been using low power mode since I’ve gotten my phone and I always have it on so that’s probably helping my phone stay healthy

Yes, I never said 1%/week was normal; you keep conflating your unique situation with the more general case.

(Even in your case, had you waited until your Battery Health dropped below 80% your battery would have been replaced for free at that time.)

The Genius Bar manager was incorrect; they often are not provided with the appropriate data, they only know the directives Apple has sent directly to stores.

That's the same thing that is happening on my iPhone 12 (running iOS 14.6), turned on for the first time on December 20.

I've noticed that battery health went down to 99% after about 6 months and in the last 2 weeks it has dropped down to 97%: the battery health of my old iPhone 8 (whose iOS was constantly updated as well and with battery saving always turned on) went down to 90% after 20 months of usage.

I charge the battery only once per day and power saving is always enabled; I usually do not run many apps simultaneously, maybe some of them (e.g.: Microsoft Teams) are battery intensive.

This battery's depletion looks quite strange to me.
