Thunderbolt display port not working after memory upgrade...any ideas of why ?

I just upgraded the RAM on my 2012 Mac Mini from the 4gb to 16(two 8 sticks). The MAC Mini recognizes that it now has 16gb of ram, however it now does not see the monitor which is plugged into the Thunderbolt port.

Is there some reason this happens with memory upgrade ?

Mac mini, OS X 10.11

Mac's can be very picky, what 8GB RAM modules did you use?

please include the brand, spec's and speed

Try reinstalling the stock RAM and check to see if the Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort starts working again.

If it does, then send/take those modules back and purchase Ram modules directly from either OWC or Crucial.

Good job.

I wonder if I could have damaged the Thunderbolt port with all of the plugging/unplugging I have done.

Perhaps. I would try a different cable.

In addition to the NVRAM reset that woodmeister suggested,

also try resetting the SMC as per > https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

and Safe Mode > https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 followed by a normal restart.

I just did that, followed the keystroke steps, and still am not getting any signal or system recognizing the Thunderbolt port having a device connected.

I can't imagine that the physical port is broken. But with my unplugging and plugging back in the cord so much the past 24 hours could that have done damage ? is the port replaceable ? or am I grasping for straws where there is something else internal wrong....whew...sorry for the rant....Thoughts ?

I have taken the new RAM sticks and re installed a few times but still no display from Thunderbolt port. I even swapped back the old 4gb sticks and with those installed I am now not getting anything from Thunderbolt port.
