disk space almost full on new computer

I just bought a new macbook air with 250 GB disk space. I used Time Machine to move from my old macbook pro to the new macbook air. I already have 109 GB used in "other" and now I only have 4 GB available (which might be preventing my computer to get connected to icloud). I only have around 25 GB of other on the old computer. Which is happening and how can I reduce the "other" disk storage so I have more GB space available?
