For some contacts, read receipt is showing. I have toggled it off, made sure it is toggled off on the contact, turned iMessage off and on and tried again. This has happened through software updates and restarting my phone. Any fixes?

I do. I’ve read in other threads that this is a glitch, so I guess I’m looking for a workaround if anyone has found one. I’ve tried the tips I’ve read with no luck.

If you are seeing a read receipt in your iMessage thread, that is not a setting on your device. That is a setting on their devices. The Read receipt setting on your device will determines whether they will see Read on their devices for your messages.
You're welcome. I've seen a couple of other posts, but not widespread. I've not experienced anything like this, but I have Read Receipts turned off on my device, but have it turned on for a couple of selected people in my family.

Okay, you state that you have turned off the Read Receipts in individual contacts, do you have you turned Send Read Receipts off in Settings>Messages?
