Itunes crashes on Synch

Hi there,

It seems the problem I have is a very common one, but I'm really at a loss as to what to do next. I'll try to provide as much detail as possible for the sake of explaining everything I've tried so far.

I have a Windows 10 (64 bit) computer. The computer is about 6 months old, so still relatively new. On the computer, I am running Itunes Version 12.11.0.26.

I have an IPhone 11 Pro running IOS 14.3. I also have just purchased the new IPad pro 12.9, which is also running IOS 14.3. Both of these are recongnised by Windows when I connect them to the computer (via USB).

ITunes also recognises both. I can "see" both in my Itunes application and can start the process of Synchronising. However, with both, it appears to be that the backup process starts and then after a few minutes, Itunes simply closes. No errors (that I can see) no connectivity issues, it just crashes.

I've watched and the backup process completes. It then states in the top centre of the Itunes app that it's reading photos and then,,,, it crashes.

I have tried many of the common suggestions, I've seen on the support and discussion forums including the following steps so far:

  1. Cleared or reset the cache
  2. Run Diagnostics with no issues
  3. Uninstalled and re-installed Itunes
  4. Changed USB cables
  5. Reset my Iphone
  6. tried running Itunes in compatibility mode
  7. tried running Itunes as administrator (even though I am an administrator of my own computer)
  8. restarted both computer and Iphone multiple times
  9. I've confirmed I am on the most up to date drivers

I'm sure there is more that I've tried, and as you might see, I'm not reaching out without trying everything I could think of to fix this. All I want to do is to synchronise my music and photos to my devices.

Is there anything else that I can try here? It's quite frustrating to have all this tech available and not to have something so seemingly simple not work.

Thank you

Hi there and thank you for your reply. I apologise for the delayed response; I've been on a bit of a vacation and away from my computer. The link provided is quite basic and explains the basics of how to sync. This is not the problem I have. As noted in my original comments, I have an error where Itunes simply crashes. I should add, that Itunes has worked previously so this is not a 1st time sync (other than with my new IPAD) which has the exact same issue as my Iphone.

I suspect there is something within the computer's Itunes configuration that is causing this constant crashing. Is there a sync database or register that can be cleared or removed to force Itunes to start fresh? Again, for reference, the backup process completes, it starts reading photos and shortly after.... crashes and closes. This is a repeatable process even after reboot, remove and re-install of the latest version of Itunes, disabling security software. Nothing seems to work.

Suggestions?

Hello CDH613,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your post that you have not been able to sync music from iTunes on your Windows PC with your iPhone 11 Pro or iPad Pro. Does this happen when you try to sync individual items along with a group of items? This article has different options you can use to sync your content to your iPhone.

CDH613,

If you haven't already, we recommend testing the issue while your Mac is in safe mode.  The following articles have the steps you will need to test the issue in safe mode:

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed."

Regards.
