Video audio has mysterious static sound when playing recorded video using Camera app.

I took my iPhone 12 Pro Max into an authorized Apple repair facility (Jack Be Click).

After they ran every diagnostic they could, they determined it was a hardware problem. The gears that control the camera's lens auto-focus were slipping.

They told me they see this all the time in older iPhones but this was the first time they saw this with an iPhone 12 series.

I also have the problem recording video with the camera app. White noise constant at full volume level.

the only way I could stop it was to turn off stereo recording option in camera settings. Then I could hear spoken words.

with stereo on I can hear nothing but full volume noise mush.

I was getting static in the beginning of video recordings (starting today 1/16/21). I just went to settings > camera > Record Video > and changed between settings, tried it out and then ended up back at my original setting and it worked. I have no idea why, but that worked.

Go to settings, camera, record video, uncheck 1080 HD and recheck, then go try a test video recording and see if no static exists. In my case, the static was gone.

I have the new iPhone SE and have had the same problem. I got the phone last week. I went to camera settings and turned off record stereo sound and it seems to be better. I can actually hear what I want to record instead of the static over it.

I purchased the insurance on my phone through Sprint and was able to get a replacement. The static playback was determined to be a hardware issue to support the replacement.

As I went over the issue with the Apple rep on the phone it was determined that the issue only occurred with the camera in selfie mode where the screen pointed towards me.

Now have my Republican phone and it works fine.

I just discovered the same thing through trial and error. What was really annoying is that searching for static / interference on iPhone videos didn’t dentist this thread. It was only when I knew the answer and searched with “stereo” as a key word that this thread came up. Are they trying to make it hard?!?.

turning stereo recording off in settings definitely works

I have had the same issue and the only thing I got to fix it was to go into settings>camera>toggle OFF record stereo sound

Updates: I took my phone to an authorized reseller to get fixed (on warranty) on December 22. I’m still waiting… but they told me it was a microphone problem and need to replace it. I’m from Uruguay so we have to import the parts from USA and it took so long because of the shipping and the customs services.

I had same problem - apple replaced my display as the top speaker was the cause of the fault

I had similar issue with iPhone 12. It was tested at Apple, which found a rear microphone failure.

I am also having the same issue. I know that there are 3 mics on the iPhone 12 Pro, different apps use different ones. The video recording for me is very crackly on playback and that’s recited with the mic that’s located near to the camera on the back of the phone. Don’t know which other app to test that mic with? Tried updating software etc no good.
