Mac mini M1 ethernet doesn't work after waking from sleep

I'm having the same issue only it's Wi-Fi that stops working when waking from sleep. Mac mini M1 running Big Sur v11.3.

Rebooting fixes the issue.

Mine already has 16gb of RAM. I have a feeling that it's a hardware issue that just isn't present in the one you got in your return.

After reading through all these replies, I think my problem is related enough that it belongs here. Basically, on my M1 Mac Mini (OS 11.2.3) I have it scheduled to wake every day at 8AM. No auto-login, just to boot up so if I'm not in the office I can connect remotely. However, after logging in the ethernet connection doesn't work. Same with the DHCP address and green dot, just no internet connection. Fixes itself after reboot.

So (as many others have said) I don't think disabling sleep is going to fix this issue.

Update: I tweeted at Apple Support and they suggested stuff I had tried: swapping cables, ports, manual IP - none of which changed anything - still showing connected on router and network prefs, but no internet connection. Ran diagnostic mode - no errors found, though I had to disconnect the ether or it hung at “verifying network connection” even with WiFi enabled. Finally they asked me to reset my router, which solved the problem, but I note that I had three other devices connected with ether and six on WiFi NONE of which had a problem, so it seems to me the M1 might have some kind of firmware issue or the M1 build of macOS has a driver issue still (upgraded to 11.5.1 during all this which changed nothing) with handshaking.

It’s bizarre. How can the machine think the link is connected, when it clearly isn’t (only got “you’re not connected to the internet” when I pulled the cable)?

Now if I can get FaceTime audio to work with HDMI that will be something…

full-duplex, flow-control, energy efficient ethernet < and I think this is why my nic keeps dropping after a period of inactivity

I've got an M1 Mac mini with standard gig Ethernet port, running MacOS 11.5.2.

Sleep settings are all disabled.

It's attached to a non-green Ethernet port with all power-saving features disabled, and the automatic negotiation settings when the Mac trains up on Ethernet are "full-duplex, flow-control".

Mine also drops connections every few hours, requiring me to down the interface and bring it back up. This also happens during active network transmission (established TCP sessions with data moving back and forth).

This also happens with multiple external USB-C gig Ethernet products I've tried as a work-around.

WiFi remains stable. Which is great, except... you know... it's WiFi. :-) I need the low latency and sustained bandwidth that Ethernet provides, while keeping the channels free for my devices that actually require WiFi.

The C program posted is a great workaround, other than the system has up to a 60-second window between when the interface goes down and cron brings it back up. I could run it more often, but any active connection is impacted when the interface goes down, regardless of how often I check its status and reset when needed.

Has anyone else had any better luck with this? Any system-level tweaks that could keep the Ethernet working properly? Has a replacement the hardware fixed the problem for anyone?

My husband has a new mac midi and if I turn the wifi off than he will not be able to print since our printer is not connected to his mac midi if I am understanding the comment.
