Slow internet connection M1 wifi

I wonder if anyone else is having connection issues with new Apple products. I recently bought the new m1 MacBook Pro, it is very slow to connect to the internet upon start up (slower than my 2013 MacBook Pro) the connection speed is also terrible at 50mps on a 250mps connection, my old macbooo pro is getting almost 175mbps on WiFi, I am also getting this issue on the new iPhone 12 pro, 40-50mbps and my old Samsung s8 getting over 200 and the same on my old iPad Pro.

im very disappointed in this and may send the product back

I was having the same issue with my Macbook Air M1 where my internet connection speed went from 150 Mbps to about 14Mbps! I contacted Apple support and went through all the usual things when you have an issue like this (malware scan, reset all your settings, etc). Then they asked me to create a new user account to test with and as soon as I ran the speed test under the new user all the speed came back. They then had me go back to my main user account and check for login items. I had DropBox and Google Backup and Sync as startup items. The service advisor had me remove them (not just uncheck them) and the re-run speed test and voila all my speed came back! Not sure which of these is the bigger culprit but I suspect that it is a Google issue as I have several google accounts going. Hope this helps.

They did not offer any help at all. I did self diagnose that the wifi speed does improve as I get closer to my router, however this seems to be intermittent. I walked around the house with it the other day and the signal degrades significantly literally every 5-10 feet. iPad and iPhone both held the same signal most of the way across the house. I have been very disappointed in the poor tech knowledge that I've experienced with apple support recently. The whole "shoulder shrug" conclusion is unbelievable.

Yeah, the level could be better. I am indeed far from the router which is located on a different floor. So yes, the signal is weak-ish, though still completely usable by my other devices in the same room. It’s not like the signal is marginal and goes on and off. It’s either 30 Mbps or 0.5 Mbps, and once it goes in that « slow state », it does not ever come back up (until a reboot). Then it can be fine for days until the issue shows up again. Think of it as a « normal » state and a « sluggish » state. Definitely fishy and solved by rebooting, which maybe points to a driver issue?

I can hit great upload and download at the office (200+), and literally 10 minutes later be under 5 on a download. No rhyme or reason to reason to application or browser extensions open and the change in speed. I did a complete reset and before installing anything testing again. Still had wildly inconsistent results. I am in an office with 100 other people, only the m1s seem to have this issue. Most other user have intel based pros and airs, some PCs - no issues with these folks.
