Big Sur Download Disappears

When I download Big Sur, it goes through the download process and shows up as downloading in Launchpad but once the download finishes, it all disappears and I can't install it. I have restarted the computer and re-downloaded Big Sur several times with the same outcome. How do I fix this?

Delete any partial/incomplete downloads and empty the trash—try again.

If you downloaded the full Installer successfully it will be sitting in your Applications folder "Install macOS Big Sur.app"

“Install macOS Big Sur.app” macOS 11.2 ( ~ 12.21GB )

If the installer launches automatically you can quit like any other application.

If the Installer runs and your upgrade to Big Sur is complete, the Installer removes itself (disappears.)

(Please note: if you are simply updating your existing Big Sur , the 11.2 point update is ~3.25GB and is not free standing )

Hey there!

Sounds like you are talking about the initial download and not the installation?

Can I ask what your current OS version is? Older ones, you may see download in the browser, then go to downloads, the newer ones, should be downloaded from System Preferences > Software Update.

Does the “Install Mac OS Big Sur” show up either in Downloads or Applications?

I have the exact same problem , download macOS Big Sur 11.2 ( 12.21GB ) was completed successfully and was in the Applications folder which I was hoping to put on a USB installer drive so I could upgrade my new internal NVMe SSD , but I was prompted for a software update for the existing internal drive which required a restart , and when it rebooted the downloaded .dmg installation package was gone ! , have you any clues on why or where it went ? thanks
