In windows one has long been able to change the icon that represents a desktop shortcut. Is there such magic available on the Apple side? Specifically, a shortcut made by dragging a favicon from a webpage to the desktop. What currently shows is pretty ugly.
If.. this question is in the wrong area.. please advise and I will remove or move it.

Yes. You can change the icon on most any file buy copying the image and pasting it into the Info pane of the alias (shortcut) file.
I did not. I have since changed it. Then (I think, I did several things) I opened the desired icon in a viewer, selected the image, copied the image and pasted it in the "Get Info" image. And that works.

Do you have this checkbox checked or unchecked in the Finder/Advanced preferences?
Also there should be a file name under the icon.
Except.. unless I am doing it wrong (and the instructions seem simple enough), it don't work for me. Is this another thing that Big Sur broke?
