2019 MacBook Pro screen cracked due to overheating issue.

Was working on my MacBook as usual. It got hot as usual...so I stopped working, closed it and brought it downstairs with me. 5 minutes later, I open it up and it’s cracked. Looks like the screen imploded and there are lines shooting you and the bottom is flickering.

I bought this refurbished in May of 2020.

I’m an adult who has owned many laptops and I know how to properly use them. I did absolutely nothing to this laptop other than use it the way it’s intended.

The genius made me feel like an idiot just now in their store saying they’ve seen thousands of cracked LCD’s and they’re due all to some physical/accidental damage.

the lead technician even tried to imply I dropped it which never happened. I left in tears hoping they’d find a software issue since that’s the only way to explain this.

They were patronizing and made me feel like a liar. I expect this issue to happen to more people in the future since I did nothing out of the ordinary. Posting this here for anyone who has also had this problem and was made to feel like a criminal.

The standard Apple warranty Apple covers defects in materials or workmanship, ONLY. Cracked screen is not a latent defect.

I am sorry you were treated badly. But nearly EVERY user who present a MacBook with a cracked screen says, "I did nothing to cause this" and the Apple technicians are powerless to help you. They take a LOT of abuse about this.

The melting point of glass is about 1700 degrees C -- it will not crack from overheating.

I think you will find that crazed pattern is cause by screen cracking, even if it is impossible to discern from the surface facing you.

The displays in Apple MacBooks are delicate. Stuff happens, even if you did nothing wrong.

Apple now sells a program called AppleCare PLUS, carried over from the version offered for the iPhone. It provides "no fault" coverage for screen replacement for about US$100 co-pay (a cost comparable to just the labor) to completely replace the screen. Up two incidents during the three year life of the policy.

It also provides catastrophic coverage, that for about US$250 co-pay, covers very serious issues such as "ate a glass of water" or "run over by a truck" kinds of failures.

In order to maintain the "insurance effect" you must purchase such coverage within 60 days of initial computer purchase. (Otherwise, only users with issues would purchase, and costs would be far higher.)

If you have AppleCare+ it will cover a large portion of accidental damage.

thanks for your response.

the screen itself didn’t crack. The inside of it looks like it exploded...I’ve seen some people have this similar issue and they keep getting ignored.

I understand there’s nothing I can say to make them believe me. All I want is to be able to buy another MacBook Pro peacefully knowing it’s a quality piece of equipment and sadly, I can’t with this issue. and on top of that they won’t help me if it does happen.

i do appreciate your time. :)
