Heart rate ‘chart unavailable’ on fitness app.

Since buying the series 6 watch a few months ago I have never had a heart rate chart reading on my fitness app. I wear the watch tight to my wrist (get a clear heart rate chart on the watch) paired and unpaired the devices, checked all the settings (which are correct) have the latest updates on my phone and watch, and wear the watch on my wrist which doesn’t have a tattoo. Anyone else had/have the same problem?

Sorry to hear that. From what I've gathered, a chart cannot be displayed if there are not enough data points. But this is obviously not the case for you as you show in your screenshot that the watch does display a chart. I was thinking of a communication problem between the watch and the phone but your phone shows an average BPM. So the phone does get data from the watch.

You also imply that you owned another Apple Watch before getting this one and that you had not problems with it.

This leads me to think that your watch is defective and it is time to get Apple onboard: Get Support

I haven't had the problem you describe. My watch syncs all workouts with my iPhone Fitness app, regardless if the app is open or not.

I actually ended up returning my Apple Watch 6, and instead got an Apple Watch 6 Nike edition. The biggest differences are the addition of Nike watch faces, which are better integrated to sync with the phone. Also, I had a fabric watch band, and the Nike sport bands fit MUCH better. They tend to keep the watch more stabilized and closer to your skin.

Since my Nike watch, things have been a bit better, but what's mystifying is when my WATCH catches enough heart rate data to display a chart, but that same workout on the iPhone Fitness app shows "chart unavailable."

Something else you may try is to unpair your watch, and then set it up as a NEW watch, with only minimal apps. If any of your watch apps are corrupted, restoring from a backup won't help you. I believe there are watch apps out there (like Heartwatch) that interfere with proper operation of heart rate monitoring.

I will be using the Feedback Assistant app on my Mac to submit a bug report for the iPhone Fitness app. Using this method to report a problem is your best chance of getting usable details into Apple programmers' hands, and actually getting something fixed.

I have had the exact same problem with my Series 4, and just purchased a Series 6, and the problem remains. I've checked every permission, wiped, reset and re-installed with no success.

For example, on a watch workout (initiated by the NRC app), a chart for 13.5 minutes appears, with a total of 41 dots and vertical bars appearing in the Heart Rate watch app, which would imply well over 41 successful measurements.

However, the Fitness app on my iPhone (12 Pro Max), shows the workout, but "Chart Unavailable" appears.

I'm on the phone to Apple Support (with someone apparently who specializes in this exact technical area), and they were stumped. I'm thinking this is an issue with the iPhone Fitness app, somehow not correctly processing the heart rate data from the watch.

I've attached a screenshot of my watch workout, and a screenshot of the iPhone Fitness app for the same workout.
