Multiple Tabs Opened When Starting Safari [ MacOS Big Sur Ver. 11.1 ]

Went to open Safari today and now have multiple tabs opened upon start. Don't know how this started. Might it have happened when I accidentally keyed "poutlook.com" instead of outlook.com? When that happen a whole lot of windows opened and i was getting a buzzing alarm like sound from my mac mini. I was able to shut down Safari, but in the back of mind I wonder if this started the issue. What do community members suggest to solve this issue. (Note: I used MS Edge to ask this question. The multiple tabs opened is not happening this browser, only Safari. TIA.

Luckily my daughter just lives two house away. She is a Macanista and a computer programmer, but most importantly fresh eyes to see the screen. Apparently, I must have tweaked a setting while setting up my new home page.

So, I did the following:

Safari - Preferences - General - New tabs open with - select with arrow - Empty Page and viola, no more of my bookmarks were opening all at the same time at startup. I accidentally had it set for the tabs to open with the start page. Doh! I pulled a Homer. 🤣 🤪 Thanks for offering your time Barney-15E

If you started Safari while holding down the Shift key until it fully opened, and the tabs are still opening, you did more than just visit a website. You downloaded and installed Adware.

Download and run EtreCheck. It should be able to identify and remove the Adware.

Ran EtreCheck and no serious issues were found and no adware was identified. Still having multiple tabs running / loading on startup of Safari. I will try holding the shift key for a longer time to see if the tabs clear.

Hold down the Shift key when you restart Safari. That will prevent loading the pages that were open when you quit Safari.

There is nothing wrong with your Mac.

That did not work. I also manually closing all the the tabs and when I restarted Safari holding the shift key as you advised the multiple tabs continued to all opened.

You can also try looking at the Safari Extensions (in Preferences).

I was wondering about that, too, but wasn't sure how you get multiple tabs. It's not anything I have attempted, and it wasn't obvious when I looked at the preferences.
