Macbook Air to Portable Monitor

What cords do I need to connect my early 2015 Macbook Air to an external, portable (MSI) monitor. I've purchased a couple of cords, but can't seem to get it right. I believe I have a Thunderbold and USB-A port only

This will depend on which ports does the external display have. You already know that your 2015 MacBook Air has Thunderbolt ports (MiniDisplay Port). Find out which port on the external display are you planning to use and then get an adapter or a cable that goes from Thunderbolt to the identified port on the external display.
