Shuffle on music not working - Play next doesn't actually show what will play next

Hi there,

I've been having an issue with the shuffle function on itunes desktop. So I mostly listen to playlists, specifically playlists on shuffle, however the shuffle function is, well, not functioning. I will put a playlist on shuffle and songs will keep repeating, while it completely skips over half the playlist. Not only that, the "playing next" function makes it look like it's actually on shuffle, however it doesn't at all correspond to what actually plays next, which can be seen with the "history" function on the same tab.

It literally played the same song back to back while on shuffle (no the repeat song function is not on)

Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've noticed my shuffle function being weird for a while now but this is weirder than normal.

Hey there glitterabyss,

Thanks for reaching out here in Apple Support Communities. Based on your post it sounds like you're having issues shuffling music in macOS.

Does this seem to occur outside of listening to playlist you create?

If you were to view the songs in your library, do they appear to be unchecked? We asked because unchecked songs will not shuffle in your library or playlist. You can enable and disable songs for playback you can right-click over the affected songs and select "Check Selection." We would also recommend making sure you're running the most recent version of macOS compatible with your Mac.

Keep us updated.
