Setting up new M1 Mac mini with Logitech K780 keyboard

Hi, I just purchased a new M1 Mac mini and I’m having trouble setting it up. It recognized my Apple wireless mouse but not my K780 keyboard, so I haven’t been able to get past the second welcome screen where it asks for a keyboard. The keyboard is discoverable by my iPad, but the Mac doesn’t seem to sense its presence. Plugging in the keyboard’s USB receiver in the back of the Mac didn’t help either. What am I doing wrong?

Found a workaround: disable FileVault. With FileVault switched off, the Mac now recognizes the K780 at startup and I can log in without having to attach a USB keyboard. This is not ideal for me because for the past several years FileVault was always active on my Macs.

It’s clear to me that this is a bug, either specific to the M1 machines, or MacOS Big Sur.

After many failed attempts, I tried my son’s old K480 keyboard, and the Mac recognized it! Once setting up the Mac was complete, getting it to connect to the K780 using the Bluetooth setup in System Preferences wasn’t a problem. U

Unfortunately, this isn’t the solution that people who find themselves in a similar situation in the future will be hoping for.

it seems I spoke too soon. I have restarted the Mac and it ended up loosing the connection to the keyboard. Now it wouldn’t connect to any of the two Bluetooth keyboards, so it’s stuck on the login screen. Which means I can’t access the Mac nor its settings.

Tried switching off the devices and shutting down the Mac in the hope that it would recognize that no keyboard is connected and give me the option to pair again, but no such luck. Very frustrating.
