My new iPhone 12 rings while on silent mode and doesn’t ring when not on silent mode. It also rings low when it shouldn’t. I’ve restarted and I know that the button in the upper left hand corner should show orange. I’ve had an iPhone for over 7 years so I know how to operate it correctly. What are your suggestions?

The mute switch might be faulty...
Since your 12 is still covered by warranty, make an appointment and have it inspected at an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider.
