Email Signatures Disappear- Big Sur

Hi,

I'm noticing that disappearing email signatures in Mac Mail has been a problem in the community for 14+ years, spanning various OS versions. I did not have this problem with my previous Macs, even after upgrading to Big Sur. But on my newest laptop, received less than a month ago, my signatures keep disappearing when I turn off the computer.

How can I permanently remedy this?

Thanks!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

Hello PhoeniXStratComm,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand having issues with your signatures disappear every time you turn off your Mac, and we'd be happy to look into this with you.

So we're on the same page, are you following these steps to create your signitures?

Create and use email signatures in Mail on Mac

To get started, let's start up in safe mode, add your signatures, then restart normally, and let us know if the issue persists. This will help us isolate this issue further. Here's how to start up in safe mode:

Start up your Mac in safe mode

Message us back with your result. Kind regards.

Hi PhoeniXStratComm,

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. It looks like your email signatures keep disappearing when you turn off your Mac. Let's continue working on this together.

Just to clarify, are you having issues starting up in safe mode or do you have a Mac with M1 chip?

Next, we’d like to have you test out this issue in a new user account. This will help us determine if your issue is system-wide or user based. Here's how to create a new user account on your Mac:

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

We'll be waiting for your response. Cheers!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond with these sound suggestions. The disappearing email signatures were one of many problems I've had with this Air. Since it's arrival a few days before Christmas, I haven't been able to access my iCloud documents on my computer. Several senior specialists tried to help me with that, to no avail. And it was periodically crashing, forcing me to recreate the documents I was composing.

I have the M1 chip, so safe mode was not an option. I decided to call for help. At the direction of Apple senior specialists, I have erased the hard drive and reinstalled Big Sur five times within the last 24 hours. After the initial erasure, I used Migration Assistant to migrate the data from my MacBook Pro (the third migration attempt). This time, it announced that it was unable to create a user account. Consequently, we tried more erasures and re-installations.

We finally raised the white flag when it absolutely refused to create a user account--even a test account. That essentially rendered this pitiful piece of equipment useless. (Imagine my delight, after having paid my initial Apple invoice in full--prior to the due date!)

Luckily, I had purchased it online. That gave me 30 days to return it, rather than 14. (Whoo-hoo!) I happily dropped it off at FedEx moments ago. My daughter's new Air with Intel processor has performed flawlessly, as we have come to expect from our Macs. I'm a bit gun-shy now. I was excited about the Air, but I'm fleeing back to the MacBook Pro.

Again, thanks so much for your offer of help.

Wow, thank you! NONE of the support advisors have told me this. I'll see if I need it with my new computer. I was so disgusted, I upgraded from the Air to a MacBook Pro. I've never had a problem with my previous ones. The gold laptop was beautiful--but the beauty was only skin deep.

I appreciate you taking the time to try to help.

Stay safe!
