accessibility - kensington orbit trackball

I use a Kensington Orbit Trackball due to disability. I am literally handicapped, no fingers. The trackball is the only pointing device I've found that works with my specific deficits. After the upgrade to Big Sur, the trackball is not recognized most of the time. I have tried deleting and reinstalling Kensington software, unplugging and plugging the USB connector. The only effort that works (sometimes) is to do a full restart every time I wake up the computer. This is a pain, and it feels discriminatory. Where is Apple support for people with disabilities? I'd welcome any ideas to fix this problem.
