Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

After more than two weeks, I think that it is time to sum up the situation: the "flashing Apple logo" issue described by Blue-per does not occur when we unbox and boot the iPhone 12 (mini)/12 Pro (Max) for the first time, it occurs when the iPhone is already set up.

In most cases the phone performs normally after it boots up. Some users found hardware problems when using their new iPhone (phone needing to be connected to power in order to boot up, screen burn-in, battery charges very slowly, camera not taking HDR photos, etc.).

In my opinion those problems are not related with the flashing logo at startup, because they are very different from each other and they are isolated cases. They are just coincidences.

That does not mean that the flashing logo is not an issue: there are iPhone 12/12 Pro which boots with the (classic) steady Apple logo and some iPhone 12/12 Pro that do not, so it is obviously not a normal thing. It is not a "new feature" or "expected behavior".

After reading other answers on the forum, we can deduce that the issue does not occur on iPhone 12/12 Pro that were shipped with iOS 14.1 or with iOS 14.2 pre-installed, it (mainly) occurs on iPhone 12/12 Pro shipped in January with iOS 14.3 pre-installed. As a matter of fact a lot of people returned the device during the last weeks and got a new one with the same problem.

Now, we suppose (and hope) that the issue is part of iOS 14.3 and not in the hardware of the phone. In this case Apple should be able to fix it with an update, maybe already with a sub-dot-release (iOS 14.4.X) or later with iOS 14.5. There are some comments in favor of that supposition too, where people noticed that issue after updating from iOS 14.2 to iOS 14.3.

On the other hand, it is strange that (most) iPhones who updated the operating system from 14.2 to 14.3 did not experience the issue. And it is even stranger that I read a reply from a user who encountered the problem already on iOS 14.2. Those facts contradict our supposition above, and maybe the flashing logo has nothing to do with iOS 14.3.

I am sure a lot of people have this problem too; they do not notice it, because nowadays we do not shutdown and restart our phones very often. And even if they do that, they (probably) don't keep looking at the boot screen for issues.

It is very hard for us to guess if it is a software or a hardware problem. Only Apple can give us an official answer, and in order to solve the problem as soon as possible I ask you to continue upvoting this and other similar posts (clicking on "I have this question too"), commenting if you have some news from Apple and reporting the case to the Apple Support.

I wouldn’t notify anyone. I’m sure that Apple are already aware of this problem, and working on it. I would take the fastest way to a new phone, and I think in this case will be return it, and then buy a new one. I’m not sure about the refurbished phones.... But I think they stopped, so they will swap to a brand new one. It should be so, if the rules are followed correctly.

Same issue. I had 4 replacements and the same issue everytime. 256GB Graphite and the problem was from when I took it out the box and turned it on for the first time. Returned and got a Gold 512GB with the same issue. Returned again for the same and same issue. Returned for a 3rd time and got the Graphite 512GB to find it was fine for a day and then restarted just to check and guess what?!.....

Can't be bothered returning anymore.. Will wait for Apple to respond...there better be a fix for this!!

I too had my iPhone 12 Pro replaced and the same issue with the brief flash of the logo. 14.4 did not fix this. Called Apple and they were not aware of this issue. Informed the support rep and all they wanted to do was a reset/restore. Really poor support from Apple for such a pricey phone. I came over to Apple for quality, this is not the case with this issue/phone.

My iPhone Pro Max 256 did it right after my icloud backup was done (I like to shutdown and restart after the restore is complete). It's good to run the phones battery all the way down before the first charge. So my phone in this case had this issue before it was even on a charger... probably had about 45% battery when I shut down and restarted it. It's not just caused from charging the phone... my wifes iPhone 12 Pro Max 128 did not have this issue though after it finished its restore and I rebooted it... it behaved perfectly normal. But after being on the charger overnight it also had the same problem... so its a couple of different things going on here... My phones were replaced twice so it's not the hardware either.

I just received my iPhone 12 Pro this week (shipped with IOS 14.3) To my recollection, the phone did not flash the logo when I first received it but I could be wrong. I have noticed no effects from this apple logo flashing. It just makes me concerned that there could be a hardware issue. But since so many others are also having the same issue, it makes me think that it is indeed software related. I have not yet reached out to Apple about this. I was just looking into what others were saying.

The logo happened to me and what I noticed is that if you go into recovery mode you’ll be met with a black screen but the computer will still recognize it, which is concerning. Nobody at Apple I talked has heard about this. They tried shipping out a refurbished phone. No thank you I just bought this phone I don’t really want something “almost new.” Not my fault it has problems. For now I will return this one and repurchase.

Just picked up an iPhone 12 Pro this morning (2/2/21) and experienced the same problem. I’ve discovered that the quick logo flash occurs during startup but after about 5 seconds, the normal logo then appears for a couple seconds before presenting the unlock screen. It wasn’t necessary to hit the power on button again after first logo flash.

I talked to Verizon tech support. The person I worked with couldn’t reproduce the “flash logo”. Perhaps it’s a software issue (?). I’m running iOS 14.4.

That’s not correct. Some front desk customer care are not aware including support people. But apple is well aware of this issue including their Senior Support Advisors and Senior Engineers. I had told in this post that I spoke to several engineers while I contacted them for support on this issue and the conversation lasted for over 2 hours with them. So don’t worry. They are aware and including developers like Zollotech.

Same issue! I bought my phone January 31 here at Singapore and after setting it up the following day I restarted my phone since Lazada app is not working then I noticed this flashing logo glitch. So I went down to Apple immediately and have the phone replaced. Then on that same day after setting up the replacement phone and when I tried to restart it the same issue happened. Not sure if I want to give it a try for a 3rd time now
