Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

After more than two weeks, I think that it is time to sum up the situation: the "flashing Apple logo" issue described by Blue-per does not occur when we unbox and boot the iPhone 12 (mini)/12 Pro (Max) for the first time, it occurs when the iPhone is already set up.

In most cases the phone performs normally after it boots up. Some users found hardware problems when using their new iPhone (phone needing to be connected to power in order to boot up, screen burn-in, battery charges very slowly, camera not taking HDR photos, etc.).

In my opinion those problems are not related with the flashing logo at startup, because they are very different from each other and they are isolated cases. They are just coincidences.

That does not mean that the flashing logo is not an issue: there are iPhone 12/12 Pro which boots with the (classic) steady Apple logo and some iPhone 12/12 Pro that do not, so it is obviously not a normal thing. It is not a "new feature" or "expected behavior".

After reading other answers on the forum, we can deduce that the issue does not occur on iPhone 12/12 Pro that were shipped with iOS 14.1 or with iOS 14.2 pre-installed, it (mainly) occurs on iPhone 12/12 Pro shipped in January with iOS 14.3 pre-installed. As a matter of fact a lot of people returned the device during the last weeks and got a new one with the same problem.

Now, we suppose (and hope) that the issue is part of iOS 14.3 and not in the hardware of the phone. In this case Apple should be able to fix it with an update, maybe already with a sub-dot-release (iOS 14.4.X) or later with iOS 14.5. There are some comments in favor of that supposition too, where people noticed that issue after updating from iOS 14.2 to iOS 14.3.

On the other hand, it is strange that (most) iPhones who updated the operating system from 14.2 to 14.3 did not experience the issue. And it is even stranger that I read a reply from a user who encountered the problem already on iOS 14.2. Those facts contradict our supposition above, and maybe the flashing logo has nothing to do with iOS 14.3.

I am sure a lot of people have this problem too; they do not notice it, because nowadays we do not shutdown and restart our phones very often. And even if they do that, they (probably) don't keep looking at the boot screen for issues.

It is very hard for us to guess if it is a software or a hardware problem. Only Apple can give us an official answer, and in order to solve the problem as soon as possible I ask you to continue upvoting this and other similar posts (clicking on "I have this question too"), commenting if you have some news from Apple and reporting the case to the Apple Support.

There is no confirmation either way, from Apple, that this is purely cosmetic. Some have reported additonal issues powering on the phone that may, or may not, be related to this glitch. The fact that the phone looks like it's operating normally after it's powered on does not preclude that there could be an underlying issue, nor does it explain why it started happening with phones manufactured since late last year.

Also, please don't assume that all markets around the world accept returns.

I have this same problem. I got my blue iPhone 12 Pro Max two weeks ago. The symbol would flash quick and then turn on normal after 5 seconds. I had my phone replaced a week after I got it. Then after another week my new iPhone would do it too. I have a new iCloud account. I know with my old iPhone 10 max I had about 2 years ago did the exact same thing. I had it replaced and then the same thing started to happen with the new replacement phone I got. I also had a different iCloud account on that iPhone. Please help fix this asap

I just got the weirdest email from Apple. They removed my response. I posted that we’ve all been getting different responses from Apple. I suggested that you respond to apple.com/Feedback. They removed my post because I mentioned something about future versions that some of you have tried and fixed the problem.

Different stores and different support people say different things. If it were by design, all the phones would’ve had the same issues. Whatever the issue is I hope they address it. But the Apple representative I spoke to told me to send feedback directly to Apple. This is an owner support forum but they probably monitor it by keywords. Most people don’t live particularly close to Apple stores. And even if you do, the responses are Inconsistent and often unprofessional. We were told that it was OK because her boyfriends phone did that.

iOS 14.4.1 is a sub-dot release of iOS 14.4 and is a "surprise" update that fixes a vulnerability in WebKit, so that malicious web content will not have its way. It is an urgent and important security update, so at the moment I am not bothered that it does not fix the flashing logo issue.

Let's wait for the official release of iOS 14.5.

It’s now March 11th. I received a replacement iPhone 12 Pro Max with 14.3 with this exact issue. I updated to 14.4.1 and still see the flash of the logo followed by black at boot. Maybe it will be fixed in the next update as this does not seem to be causing any issues for me besides being annoying. I’ll make sure to edit this in case anything changes.

We don't have any other issues happening so not a big deal. Perhaps other issues are not due to this. I also found with both our phones we hold the button down, the flash happens about 6 or so secs in, then release the button, don't keep pressing it, then about another 8 to 10 secs later our phones boot up. I too called Apple, got a pleasant person that honestly said they did not have any information but her family also had phones that did the same thing and she put in the report so hopefully if it is not normal will be addressed with the next update. Cheers!

As many of you, I have the same problem and if I can say my opinion, for the price we pay the phone, we have all the rights to receive a perfect product. I don’t know if it’s just a “cosmetic” bug or it also has some kind of consequences on our devices (maybe in the long run, who can say it?) but as it’s been highlighted in the first page of this thread, it’s clearly something NOT EXPECTED and as such, the issue (harmless or not) should be officially addressed by apple and solved. As consumers, we have all the rights to have it solved, since it clearly is something not normal.

Apple logo flashes when the iPhone is forced to boot

Hello, I bought on March 4, 2021 an IPhone 12 256 go on the Apple website.

While I was discovering how the phone works, as I do with all my phones, I tested a hard reset.

volume +, volume - and then Power.

The phone started to reboot, but unlike usual, the apple logo did not appear correctly.

Indeed, the logo appeared as a camera flash, and never appeared again.

It is therefore difficult to know when to release the Power button when restarting since the logo does not appear frankly, leaving a screen desperately black!

I tested several times the problem:

a first time by keeping my finger pressed on the power button, after the logo has flashed, in the hope that it would reappear as it should, but without success.

a second time when I released the power button at the moment when the logo flashed, and there the phone restarted!

I contacted Apple technical support on the chat, the advice was given to me to reset the phone completely, but without success.

I then contacted the technical support by phone (in Canada), a technician assisted me by sharing the screen of my Macbook, for a restoration via the Finder (instead of the old one via Itunes).

But without success!

He advised me to approach the sales department for an exchange.

I continued my research until I found on Youtube, other users of IPhone 12, 12 Pro Max, having had exactly the same problem.

What is going on with this IPhone 12 model?

I'm only 4 days of use and already problems; I have at least the opportunity to return it before the 14 days, but for the others?

Today, March 21, 2021, I'm on my second new IPhone 12. on iOS 14.4.1 version. Indeed, I just received a replacement IPhone.

When I unpacked it, the phone started normally. I purposely did not restore the ICloud backup, in order to check where the problem came from.

Unfortunately, the same Apple logo flashing bug happened again.

personally, I think that even if Apple sent me a container of IPhone 12, the same problem would repeat itself!

If you have seen my post about the 6 phones I have tried, it doesn’t do it out of the box. It starts after charging the phone to 100 percent. I have tried restoring from back up from iCloud and from my pc. Even after doing a restore from back up it doesn’t do it. I’ve turned my phone off several times and it never started. I put the phones on the charger and charged to 100 percent after setting phone up and tried turning it off and that’s when it starts.

And every time I set a new phone up from a back up it was fine. I turned it off 5-6 times and never did the logo flash. After setting phone up and putting it on charger it was fine. But after it charged to 100 percent is when it started for me, several different phones were the exact same way. Actually all of them because some were fine when I went to bed and started the next morning and I couldn’t figure out why. But the last 3 is when I realized it was starting after phone was charged to 100
