First Generation AirPods Disconnecting After 5 Minutes

It doesn't matter if they are connected to my iPhone or MAC. Or if you are listening to Spotify, Apple Music or on a call/Facetime. Why is it that apple support is referring to this disconnect issue as an isolated issue when clearly I am not the only one experiencing the same issue? See community board here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251899431. Unpairing/resetting them isn't working. In calling support my only options (if not enrolled in Apple care) are to send them in to get fixed for $60something(don't recall the full amount because I was livid at that point) per side (=roughly $120) + $6.95 shopping/handling. You would be better off buying a brand new pair! But why? When my pair are still in great condition! What a rip off! Apple team, please escalate this as we clearly need a fix rollout asap. Or is this a marketing ploy similar to the throttling of older Apple products so consumers spend more money on your products?!
