iphone 6 disabled forgot passcode and telling me to connect to itunes

I forgot the passcode to an older iphone and tried several times to remember. It has now been disabled and is telling me to connect to itunes, which I did. I tried to update the phone, as I prefer not to restore. Despite the update, the phone says its disabled. I am not sure if the older data on that phone is backed up to the cloud. How can I access the data? TIA

If you had attempted unlocking multiple times with incorrect Lock Screen passcode, or if a message says that your device is disabled, learn what you need,

You need a computer to follow these steps. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend.
