In the account that shows the update, try re-indexing Spotlight by excluding your hard drive and then remove it. The reindex will take a while to complete.
The App Store uses it to know what is installed on the computer.

The device is MacBook Air M1, with two Users with separate IDs.
App shows as requiring update but requires authorisation through Apple ID.
iD is auto entered but on grey background. ID is that of second User (ie not logged in User) and cannot be changed. Password associated with ID is not accepted. Logging out & back in has no effect. Logging in as second user does not show the App as requiring update.
App in question is Excel installed as part of Microsoft 365, but can see no way to re-install just that element of 365 bundle.
Thank you for this, which has solved the problem. The process is a little disconcerting as it is quick and there is no way of knowing if it has been completed. Nevertheless all is now well.
Thanks again
Device or computer? What do you mean by the Apple ID is greyed-out? You can't change the ID? If you enter the password, will the app update download? More information would help.
You are welcome.
