Thunderbolt & mini display?

I ask for confirmation of what I think I am reading. Can I connect a second monitor to my Mini via the Thunderbolt port? The Mini is a late 2012 model, #A1347. It has a Thunderbolt port between the HDMI port and the first USB port. I am reading that the Mini can output video through the Thunderbolt port and a mini-display-VGA adapter to a VGA monitor. Would that connection work?

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

I am happy to report success. I bought an Ativa adapter (item 529-671) at Office Depot. It works.

That's interesting, but the second monitor has the blue connector on its cable. I understand that that color means that the monitor is only VGA. So I am thinking that I will need a Thunderbolt-VGA adapter.

I have 2 monitors connected to mine one with a hdmi to dvi dongle and one with a thunderbolt to dvi dongle
