Mac mini connectivity

I try to connect my mac mini with my old imac (2011). I have the thunderbolt 2 cable and the thunderbolt 2 with thunderbolt 3 adapter. It doesnt work.....

I have tried to do so with macbook air (needed only the thunderbolt 2 cable) and works fine - so both the cable and the imac are ok.

So, the problem should be either the mac mini M1 or the adapter. Can someone provide a solution? Thanks
