Appple ID and contacts

I have an iphone and ipad originally set up on my personal apple ID, however I had to change my iphone to a work icloud account (due to system access with work contacts) and as my ipad is still on my personal apple ID (as it is mine and not works) I am having problems with my personal contacts on my iphone, I can see them on the ipad but not on the iphone, is there anyway around this as I still want to keep my ipad as my own but my phone to still work with personal and work contacts as I dont want to have two phones, this was all working fine when they were both on the same apple ID - is there a workaround ?
