Screen time incorrectly showing 24 hours/day usage for sites I’ve never visited

I’ve been on my phone about two hours today. However, I got a message saying my screen time was up, and found that Safari has been active all day! I don’t have any tabs open in Safari, and don’t even use the Safari app (I prefer Chrome).

Even stranger is that I don’t know what KaplanHecker.com is (a Google search says it’s a law firm), and I don’t read the Huffington Post (and, again, certainly not via Safari).

The same thing happened last month with businessinsider.com on Safari, another website I don’t use.

Should I be concerned? Has my phone been hacked? I just have no idea what’s going on here.

Hey Cnjohnson12,

We're glad you thought to ask Apple Support Communities about the issue you're having with the Screen Time usage that appears. You mention not using Safari, but do you use any other app that could be opening links that would cause Safari to become active? Apps like the News app? Also, do you use multiple devices, and if so, do you have the "Share across devices" option turned on? Details on that feature can be found here: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Keep us posted!

Take care.
