Tuning off find my iPhone
I don’t remember my passcode for my old iPad. If I go to Find My and choose erase device will this turn off find my iPhone for the iPad for trade in?

No. A remote erase of a device, triggered from the Find My App of another device, will not remove the active Activation Lock.
You need to follow this procedure - which itself requires access to the device that is being prepared for displosal:

If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you’ll need to follow this process:

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).
