iPhone 12 Pro / Apple logo "flashes" at start-up....is this normal?

Whenever I re-start my iPhone 12 Pro, the white Apple logo will appear VERY briefly (less than a second) then the screen goes completely dark for 3-4 seconds. Then the Apple logo reappears and the phone re-starts normally. Is this a new normal process, or is there possibly a hardware or software problem with my phone? I've never experienced this before having been an iPhone owner for 10+ years.

I am following the instructions from the Apple Support website: “To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.”

Just got off the phone with Apple and the case and diagnostic logs have been received by the senior engineers. I made them aware that this is a worldwide issue and have given them the links to the assorted threads regarding this issue here on Apple communities as well as on Mac Rumors. I have a callback from them scheduled for Friday. They need a few days to research the issues myself and others have noted here. I will report back with an update once I speak to them on Friday and see what they have come up with to that point. Once an issue goes from senior support up to the senior engineers it can take awhile as they do dig deeply, often requiring different logs than what were initially sent so now it’s just a wait and see situation. Have a great day y’all!

I took it to an apple warranty center and indeed, it is NOT a software. Instead it is a hardware problem which I have no idea what went wrong because water was no where near, or anything at all. I’m going to have it examined after my business trip. This is really concerning for other business people who are using iPhone 12 Pro or ProMax to do their job but frozen while on a business trip like me.

Please read the thread you posted to. It is getting really tiresome to have to repeat what has been posted over and over and over and over.

Nonsense. It is a very, very minor cosmetic bug in the startup process. It does not affect operation of the phone at all. The correct startup procedure: Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears, then release it and wait. The phone will start normally once iOS finishes loading. That may take 15-30 seconds.

I have had the same issue. I just got the iPhone 12 Pro Max 4 days ago. And I noticed the flash of logo and 10-30 second wait til the phone starts up. So I called support yesterday and they had run the data analysis test and they said everything was fine but if I want to I could exchange it, so I went to the mall yesterday and I just pending 2 1/2 hours explaining and waiting they didn’t want to exchange it. But finally I was able to talk to a manager and I exchanged it and everything was fine with the phone but then this morning I noticed it was doing the same thing!? So I’m beginning to think it’s a normal thing with the 12 pro max. The technician did mention sometimes that’s normal for the 12’s because they have HD, 5G, etc.

As I’ve posted too many times in this thread, It is a very, very minor cosmetic bug in the startup process. It does not affect operation of the phone at all. The correct startup procedure: Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (or flashes), then release it and wait. The phone will start normally once iOS finishes loading. That may take 15-30 seconds. That’s about the startup time for any iPhone of any vintage. And most likely it will be fixed in the next iOS update. Instead of flashing, going out, and coming back on, the logo will come on and stay on until the phone finishes its boot process and displays the lock screen.

Hi , I’m experiencing the same problem. Decreased responsiveness to touch screen and the freezing. Yesterday I tried opening settings and the screen was blank. Had to refresh it again and for a moment I thought is this an android? I mean is there like a virus or something? Also few days ago I couldn’t access my safari . I got the 12 pro like 4 days ago and I’m so uncomfortable with the logo flash at the start up

I am facing the same problem and looking forward for a quick reply from apple

Well, you are unlikely to get a quick reply from Apple, and I can guarantee that you won’t get one as a response to your post because Apple does not participate in this user-to-user forum. You can contact Apple using the Get Support link at the top of this screen.

You know, I have the same issue. I called Apple because it is NOT normal behavior. And after 45 minutes, they pointed me at this thread. The ONLY annoying part of this thread is the Level 10 asshat who must think he is God's gift to Apple users. I think I got ALL of your key points on page 1 of the thread, so I'm not sure why you are continuing to post. Move on. Next thread. Give it a rest! PLEASE.

The key thing we all rely on with computer chips is that, given the same operating system/software, they give you the same results. When that fails to be the case, well, that is cause for pause.

I've read all the posts. I've read all the replies. It seems it is not a "real" problem, but a minor annoyance. If it is more than that to anyone out there, despite Lawrence's advice to the contrary, please feel free to contact Apple. As for me, I plan to go back to drinking my beer and bourbon and waiting for the end of this issue, the end of the world, or the end of the pandemic to come. Whichever comes first.

Press the Side button until the Apple logo flashes.

Let go of the button.

Wait about 15 seconds and the phone will start.

That isn’t even a minor annoyance, it’s just an odd fact. Compare to the alternative:

On any other phone:

Press the Side button until an Apple logo appears.

Let go of the button.

Wait about 15 seconds and the phone will start.

The ONLY difference is that the Apple Logo doesn’t stay on for the entire boot up time. The phone will start normally in either case.

I have this same problem. also my iPhone 12 Pro would randomly reset/reboot while being used. Now it just did one of those random reset/reboot and it won't come back. it's completely dead. It's currently in an endless reboot cycle: apple Logo flashes on screen for 1/2 second, then goes dark for about 30 seconds, repeat like this for the past hour. My phone is less than 30 days old. I'm going to leave it plugged into charger over night and try again tomorrow. It was at 80% battery when it reset, so not sure if this will help.
