iPhone 12 Pro / Apple logo "flashes" at start-up....is this normal?

Whenever I re-start my iPhone 12 Pro, the white Apple logo will appear VERY briefly (less than a second) then the screen goes completely dark for 3-4 seconds. Then the Apple logo reappears and the phone re-starts normally. Is this a new normal process, or is there possibly a hardware or software problem with my phone? I've never experienced this before having been an iPhone owner for 10+ years.

I am following the instructions from the Apple Support website: “To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.”

Just got off the phone with Apple and the case and diagnostic logs have been received by the senior engineers. I made them aware that this is a worldwide issue and have given them the links to the assorted threads regarding this issue here on Apple communities as well as on Mac Rumors. I have a callback from them scheduled for Friday. They need a few days to research the issues myself and others have noted here. I will report back with an update once I speak to them on Friday and see what they have come up with to that point. Once an issue goes from senior support up to the senior engineers it can take awhile as they do dig deeply, often requiring different logs than what were initially sent so now it’s just a wait and see situation. Have a great day y’all!

I have this same problem. also my iPhone 12 Pro would randomly reset/reboot while being used. Now it just did one of those random reset/reboot and it won't come back. it's completely dead. It's currently in an endless reboot cycle: apple Logo flashes on screen for 1/2 second, then goes dark for about 30 seconds, repeat like this for the past hour. My phone is less than 30 days old. I'm going to leave it plugged into charger over night and try again tomorrow. It was at 80% battery when it reset, so not sure if this will help.

The problem with your phone resetting has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Apple logo question that is the subject of this thread. You need to contact Apple Support using the Get Support link at the top of this page for what is most likely a hardware problem. Fortunately your phone is still covered by the one year warranty.

The bottom line is that it is a minor cosmetic bug in the startup process. It does not affect operation of the phone at all. The correct startup procedure: Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (or flashes), then release it and wait. The logo is supposed to stay on until the phone restarts, but for some reason it goes out after appearing briefly. However, the phone will still start normally once iOS finishes loading, without any further action on your part. That may take 15-30 seconds.

Rumors are that it will be corrected in iOS 14.5 when it is released.

ok my issue was definitely a SW problem. One of my apps infiltrated the iPhone OS and was corrupting it. Not sure why an OS as mature as the iPhones has this issue. I eventually got it to boot in DFU mode, then did a restore from backup. Not good. Same issue. After another day or so I got it to go into DFU mode again (not sure how, it just eventually does this after continuous reboot cycling for a few days). Then I did a clean sweep factory restore installation and have been slowly adding my apps back one by one. This time it said my OS was out of date (it wasn't because its the same version as before) so it loaded a small piece (few MB) of OS software this time. Not exactly sure what it loaded. Its been five days and so far so good, but only have less than half of my original apps installed.

Hello Everyone. I also had this flashing apple logo at startup issue on my brand new iphone 12 pro max. I was very concerned and i read on internet that this issue will be addressed in upcoming ios 14.5 update. I was very much concerned so i wanted to check it out myself. So, today i updated my iphone to ios 14.5 beta 8.

As soon as the phone got updated to beta version, BOOM.. that flashing logo issue gone! the phone start up went back to normal.

The bottom line is that now it is confirmed that flashing logo was a software related issue that has been addessed by apple in upcoming ios 14.5 that would be out in i guess a couple of days now.

So, do not worry everyone. This software bug will be fixed as soon as you upgrade to ios 14.5.

Cheers :)

Hi,

This 14.5 update might be a polishing thing and there might be an issue still under the surface. I had used 3 different 12 pro max before Christmas all of them were ok. I did buy an iPhone 12 in January it was also ok. then i got a brand new 12 pro max and it was with this awkward issue.. then replaced it with 12 pro again only to see same issue.bang! It was there.. last two phones were manufactured in March 21

now finally i’ve decided to try mini, the production date was october, it works fine so far.

if the issue was software then logically all of the phones using this software must be showing same functionality error at some point right?

I am ****** off, paying a laptop price for a phone and dealing with silly problems.. it keeps happening since iphone x. I had a black screen problem, speaker working issues etc since then. Most of them adressed with so called “ software updates “ but you wait for months to get that ios version with a phone in your hand not working properly.

not saying i will move to Android but Apple needs to be more careful for a premium brand.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro and it is not normal when restarting your iPhone. But . . . If you are updating your iPhone you will see the apple logo appear for less than a second and then blacks out and then shows again with a bar meaning the update progress. You might have a software issue because the boot files might of gotten messed up meaning you will have to restore the iPhone through iTunes

Hopefully this helps
