Migration Assistant Failed

When I start Migration Assistant on my new MacBook Air, I get this error message: Authentication Failed-Unable to retrieve credentials for authorizing user. I cannot get any further. I have rebooted. Mac OS 11.1

Software update is trying to authenticate user – M1 problem Hello, I am trying to migrate data from my old MacBook Pro into the new MacAir M1 laptop. First of all, I'll get this message on Migration assistant: "This Mac can't be used to migrate data. Due to an issue with unlocking this system, you can't migrate. Please update this Mac and retry." I can't migrate from time machine - Migration Assistant asks for password to non-existant user I am trying to migrate my computer content from time machine backup to my Mac Mini (i4), using Migration Assistant on the new mac mini (Monterey OS). All goes well until I get an error message saying that password is required from user 'system Administrator'. I have checked and there is no such user. The only user account is the main admin account with my own name - and entering the password for that account does not work (error message: you entered the wrong password). Anyone know what is going on? Reply Helpful

Hi JBlrjck,

We see you're running into an authentication error when using Migration Assistant on your new Mac. We can certainly understand the need to get your data transferred across, and we'd like to assist.

For this particular issue, try resetting the SMC of the Mac. The steps for that can be found here: How to reset the SMC of your Mac

If this doesn't work the first time, you may need to try it a second time, just to be sure.

After that, try using Migration Assistant again as normal.
