i finished an indoor workout and pressed the “ end workout option “. However , I now find that the kcal is being displayed in red under the indoor workout option . Why is it appearing and how do I make it disappear? I can still start another workout but it is irritating to see this display .

You have set a move goal which is why it's in red,to set it back to open goal do this;
Just before you start your next workout do this;
On the workout type tap on the 3 dots top right corner and then tap on Open then start a workout and when you've finished tap on end,the watch will remember your last setting and next time you do a workout it will be set to open goal.

thanks for your quick revert .
I just tried your recommendation by tapping on the three dots on indoor run , opened the activity and ended it after a minute.
However it is still not gone to open goal option
Did you follow all those steps to the letter especially the tap on open before you started?.
After you end the workout scroll down to the bottom and tap on "Done".

I went for a run today and did as per your advice .
Open goal has been restored .
