You could try LibreOffice which is free and works with Microsoft Office files. Or you will have to purchase a new Mac.

MS supports latest three OS from Apple

Support for Office 2016 for Mac ended on October 13, 2020. Rest assured that all your Office 2016 apps will continue to function—they won't disappear from your Mac, nor will you lose any data. However, you could expose yourself to serious and potentially harmful security risks.

To provide you with the best experience, Office for Mac supports the three most recent versions of Apple's macOS. With the release of macOS Big Sur 11, Microsoft 365 for Mac and Office 2019 for Mac supports macOS Big Sur, 11, 10.15 Catalina, and 10.14 Mojave*.
