Screengrabs STILL taking too long to save to desktop

New-ish to OS 10.15.7 and appalled at the excruciating amount of time its taking for this system to save a snapshot/screengrab image to desktop.

Went through a previous thread from 2018 addressing the issue but the solve that worked for some there (deselecting options like 'show floating thumbnail' and 'remember last selection') did not work for me.

Worse than reported back then, my system is taking MINUTES to land an image.

My HD is less than 1/5 full. I've put a ticket in to Apple.

And because the thread seemed to be closed due to age, am placing this refreshed notice of the issue here - hoping for some more options in solving this terrible hit on productivity.
