iPhoto - can I safely delete it?

Hi, I just noticed that I still have the iPhoto app on my iMac and that its no longer supported. I am using Photos and it seems to have all my photos - does that mean I can just delete the iPhoto app? Just worried as it says its over 1 Gig in size and that makes me think it might have photos stored in it....but its an app so how can it, lol, help
