Scam?

I was on my local news app, like I am everyday, and I was trying to read one of the new articles and suddenly a pop up is on my screen saying that viruses have been detected on my iPhone with a link at the bottom with the Apple name in it saying to click here to install update. It was new and weird I immediately closed the app out. I’ve never had that issue before. I’ve never had a pop up show up on my local news app either. I didn’t click anything, like I said, I immediately closed out the app but it made me nervous. This was today.

It's fake. Aside from checking manually-uploaded files, websites cannot scan an iOS or macOS system for malware.

I was pretty sure it was fake but I wanted to bring awareness to it. It’s never happened before on any of my apple products. But the lie about viruses on my phone didn’t make me nervous and I should have elaborated better on what part made me nervous. The part that made me nervous was how did I get a pop up. I have never had a pop up with my iPhone, especially not one on my local news app. That’s the part that worries me.
