Hi all. I just upgraded to Big Sur. Love it but one missing feature is annoying me. In Safari/Catalina prior to upgrade, my favorite bookmarks would show unique icons that made it easy to choose by color or shape vs reading the text. See below to see that there are now only generic icons.
Any advice would be much appreciated to get back to unique icons.

You need to visit the site at least once before it will show the icon. If you clear the History the icons will go away and the sites will have to be re-visited to get them back:

I don't see a setting for that like for Tab Website Icons, but found I have some generic icons too.
At first I thought I had to visit the sites and re-add them to bookmarks to fix the icons, but it turns out all I had to do was visit the sites and the icons were fixed.
See if that works for you.

Okay, I did restart and it now seems to be working as Ivan and Jeggrey suggested. Amazing how a restart seems to fix so many things. Sorry to waste folks time.
i have the same behaviour as ivan54. however, when you clear your history the generic icons reappear until you visit the sites again. that's not a problem with safari. it's just the "new normal"
if you're not happy with this you can send apple suggestions by clicking on Feedback - Safari - Apple
Thanks, Ivan. That does not seem to work for me. Appreciate the suggestion. That did seem to work when I had Catalina but not in Big Sur.
