2017 macbook pro backlight issue

I have been experiencing black shadows that have appeared at the bottom of the screen, at first they did not affected the laptop and now I have to place the screen at a 45 degree angle for it work, anything above results in a black screen despite the laptop being on (keyboard light is on). I have contacted apple who have quoted me nearly £600 but they have acknowledged this problem in the "13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program". Apple claim models sold between 2016-2018 are affected but only 2016 is eligible for the free repair but why not other laptops that were also sold during that period because I am experiencing the same issue. When paying for an expensive laptop you expect it to last you at least a few more years
