Messages on iMac (Big Sur) doesn't see Android messages I can see on iMac (Sierra)

Just like the subject line says. I've spent the last 6 years using an iMac late 2014 model computer with iMessages that worked perfectly fine sending and receiving messages to people no matter if they had an Apple or Android device.

I upgraded to an iMac 2020 and now I can't use iMessages with Android owners. This is what I've tried and I still can't send or receive messages from my friends on the new iMac. I did a search in this community and found an old thread. Nothing helped. Most responders refused to acknowledge that it's even possible to communicate using Messages with Android users but it's obvious that it's possible since many of us have been doing it for a long time but now with this newest machine that cost me well over $4,000 - IT'S NOT WORKING. :(

Here's what I've checked so far...

  • Messages setup is confirmed: phone number and emails - all 3 devices (2 iMacs and iPhone XS Max)
  • Handoff is active on devices that have Handoff (iMac late 2014 does NOT have handoff)... is this problematic?
  • I'm logged into my Apple account using the same AppleID on all 3 devices.
  • I have iCloud Drive ON in all 3 devices and iMessages is checked on each.

I'm at the end of my rope now. I need help. Thanks!

I found the solution.

My iPhone settings got changed over the past couple days when the problem first began. It was set correctly when I first started setting up my new iMac2020 with Big Sur but somehow, in the course of configuring my new iMac, my iPhone setting changed by itself. I can see that MMS/SMS was working when I first started configuring my new iMac but then it quit working and I didn't recall changing anything.

On the iPhone according to the link below, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and be sure whichever devices you want the MMS/SMS to work on are all checked. Somehow, 1 of 3 that are on my list was set to OFF. I flipped it ON and voila, when I opened Messages on my iMac, I could see the missing messages!
