AirPods connected but no sound

My pods say they are connected, the noise plays in the pods to signify connection. However, sounds are played from the phone speaker. This is for all sounds I’ve tried, not just an individual app. I’ve done the long hold until Amber reset. I’ve done the disconnect and forget and then reconnect. None of it has worked this time. This is the fourth or fifth time this has happened but the others resolved in several minutes. Any ideas?

I also unselected the automatic ear detection. That didn’t work.
